Circular Water Tank Design Example - Dia & Volume Calculation

Construction Software

In this civil engineering tutorial, one can learn how to work out the diameter of a circular water tank as well as the size.

The calculation is based on the following data :-

The storage capacity of the tank = 10000 litre

The volume of tank = v = 10 m3 (as per m3 = 1000 litre; 10000 litre = 10m3)

Suppose the height of water = h = 3 feet or 0.91 meter

To determine the volume of water tank, the following formula is used :-

Volume = V = πr2h

After putting the values already known, we get the following results :-

10 = 3.14 r2 0.91 (as π = 3.14)

10 = 2.85 r2

10 / 2.85 = r2

r2 = 3.50

Also Read: Underground Water Storage Tanks Materials Calculation

So, r = √3.50 = 1.87

Now to find out diameter, multiply the radius with 2

So, D = 1.87 x 2 = 3.74 or 3.75 (approx)

To check whether the values of height and radius are correct or not, go through the following video tutorial.
