How to determine the materials quantities & cost of 1000 sq.ft slab

Construction Software

In this civil engineering article, you will come to know the cost and quantities of constructing a concrete slab with area 1000 square feet.

Initially, it is required to convert square feet to square meter.

So, Area = 1000 square feet = 92.93 square meter.

Thickness of slab is given as 150 mm or 0.15 meter.

Volume of slab = Area x Thickness = 92.93 x 0.150 = 13.939 m3

While casting slab, beams should also be provided.

As per thumb rule, the volume of beam is 20% of slab volume.

So, volume of beam = 13.939 x 20/100 = 2.7878

So, total volume of slab = 13.939 + 2.7878 = 16.7268 m3 or 17 m3 (approx)

Suppose, M20 grade of concrete is used with ratio 1:1.5:3 (Cement:Sand:Aggegate)

After converting weight volume to dry volume, the quantities of materials in 1m3 will be as follow :-

Cement = 8 bags; Sand = 50 cft; Aggregates = 30 cft

Total quantities of cement = 17 x 8 = 136 bags (in 17m3)

Total quantities of sand = 17 x 15 = 255 cft

Total quantities of aggregates = 17 x 30 = 510 cft

Suppose, the cost of concrete for 1m3 = 4500/-

So, the cost of concrete for 17m3 = 4500 x 17 = 76500/-

Suppose the quantity of steel = 1% of concrete volume

So. 17 x 1/100 = 0.17m3

We know, weight of 1m3 steel = 7850 kg

So, in 0.17m3, the quantity of steel = 7850 x 0.17 = 1334.5 kg

Assume, the rate of steel per kg = 45/-

So, cost of steel = 1334.5 x 45 = 60052.5/-

So, total cost of materials for 1000 sq.ft slab = 76,500 + 60,052.5 = 136,552.5/- = 1,36,553 (approx)
