Points of differences among reinforced concrete and steel framed structure

Construction Software

Both reinforced concrete and steel frame structure structural system use similar load transfer method but the difference lies in the material from which its members are formed that is in RCC Frame, concrete is used as prime material whereas steel is considered as the prime material in steel frame.

Reinforced Concrete Framed Structure: Reinforced cement concrete is used as prime material for sustaining load.
Steel Framed Structure: Steel is mainly applied as material for sustaining load.

Reinforced Concrete Framed Structure: The cross Section areas of structural components are bigger in reinforced concrete framed structure.
Steel Framed Structure: In Steel framed structure, the Cross Section areas of structural components are small.

Reinforced Concrete Framed Structure: Reinforced concrete framed structure does not have strong resistance capacity against Earthquake and Wind.
Steel Framed Structure: Steel framed structure has good resistance capacity against Earthquake and Wind.

Reinforced Concrete Framed Structure: Huge cost is incurred for repairing it is complicated.
Steel Framed Structure: Cost of repair is fewer and repairing process is relatively simple.

Reinforced Concrete Framed Structure: Longevity of the structure is not affected by the technique of construction.
Steel Framed Structure: Longevity of the structure is mainly dependent on the technique of construction.

Reinforced Concrete Framed Structure: Skilled and non skilled workers are required for its construction.
Steel Framed Structure: Only Skilled worker are required for its construction.

Reinforced Concrete Framed Structure: Weight of structural elements is heavier.
Steel Framed Structure: Weight of structural elements is light.

Reinforced Concrete Framed Structure: Reinforced concrete framed structure contains good fire resistance capacity.
Steel Framed Structure: Steel framed structure does not have fire resistance capacity.

Reinforced Concrete Framed Structure: Precautions should be taken at the time of construction.
Steel Framed Structure: Precautions should be taken for joint at the time of construction.

Reinforced Concrete Framed Structure: Quality control is complicated.
Steel Framed Structure: Quality control process is superior.

Reinforced Concrete Framed Structure: It is inexpensive as form work and labor can be found easily.
Steel Framed Structure: Construction process is costly.

Reinforced Concrete Framed Structure: It is fragile with regard to steel structure and as a result failure can occur abruptly.
Steel Framed Structure: Due to strong ductility, failure does not occur suddenly.

Reinforced Concrete Framed Structure:In reinforced concrete framed structure, the cross section of components come as square, rectangle, circular, L shaped, T shaped etc.
Steel Framed Structure: In steel framed structure, the Cross section of components comes as I shaped, L shaped, C shaped, T shaped etc.
