Cost Estimator Electrical in Colorado

Brown and Caldwell’s Estimating and Scheduling Group (ESG) is looking to add new staff that have prior experience with electrical cost estimating and scheduling. This will be a full-time position within the ESG and the successful candidate will work with other estimators in preparing electrical estimates of probable construction cost and preliminary schedules.

We are seeking a candidate who is self-motivated, has good communication skills and time management skills, and who can work within precise budgets and deadlines. The candidate will work under the supervision of BC’s Chief Estimator. Training on the ESG software (WinEst and Primavera P6) will be provided.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to be:

  • Acquainted with conventional work breakdown structures.
  • Possess a working knowledge of CSI Master Format, construction scheduling, construction permitting and permitting processes, subcontracting and subcontractor coordination, union and non-union labor contracts, trade jurisdiction.
  • Estimates at the Planning Level and Preliminary Design Level (AACE Estimate Class 5 or 4): Develop work package or process package estimates using planning level and/or preliminary design level information from project managers and project engineers, and data from the BC estimating database.
  • Estimates in Support of Change Order Negotiations: At request of field construction managers, prepare independent estimates for proposed change orders (PCOs). Prepare summary report in standard format or as prescribed by construction manager and/or client.
  • Basis of Estimate of Probable Construction Cost Reports: Prepare a companion document to each estimate for each project that identifies background, class of estimate, estimating methodology, direct and indirect costs, bidding and estimating assumptions, exclusions, markups, and similar topics.

Position Requirements: 5-10 years’ experience in electrical engineering, detailed design, field experience, and related assignments. Possession of electrical knowledge (field experience, education, and/or knowledge of the National Electric Code). Ability to work independently under remote supervision with project managers, project design teams, and other estimators located in multiple regions across the country. Able to read drawings and specifications in order to conduct detailed quantity take-offs and costing. Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (primarily Word and Excel). Ability to read and understand Primavera schedules. Eligible to obtain AACE certification as a Certified Estimating Professional, Certified Cost Engineer (CCE), Certified Cost Consultant (CCC), or ASPE certification as a Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) within one year.
