Tips to compute the weight of steel bar in kg/feet and pound/feet

Construction Software

This construction video tutorial will introduce you to the process for working out the weight of steel with the measuring unit of kg/feet and pound/feet.

To compute the weight of steel in pound/feet, the following formula is used :-

2.67 x d2 = 2.67 x (0.5)2 = 2.67 x 0.25 = 0.66 pound/feet

Here, the diameter of steel is taken as 0.5 inch.

To compute the weight of steel in kg/feet, the following formula is used :-
1.21 x d2

Same value of diameter is also taken here.

After putting the value, we get 1.21 x (0.52) = 1.21 x 0.25 = 0.30 kg/feet

The formula is validated with the following process :-

It is known that 1 kg = 2.204 pounds

Therefore, after putting value, we get 0.30 x 2.204 = 0.66 pounds i.e. similar to the measurement created with pound/feet.
