How to design a circular column with IS 456-2000 standard

In this construction video tutorial, the eminent engineer Parag Pal, teaches you how to make the design of a circular column and a column footing by adhering to the standard 456-2000.

The design is created on the basis of the following dimension :-

Column Diameter = 600 mm

Axial load on the column = 2400 kN

There should be helical and longitudinal reinforcement in the column.

Utilize, M20 concrete and fe 415 steel.

Safe bearing strength of the soil is 250 kN/m2

Solution: To start with you have to first design the gross area of the column as follow :-

Π4 x 6002 = 282743.34 mm2

The area of concrete is taken as AC and it is determined as follow :-

282743.34 – ASC

We know the service load (existing load) = 2400 kN

Factored load (taken as Pµ) = 1.5 x 2400 (if more construction is done in future, the load will be increased).
