Learn to calculate the volume of a trapezoidal footing

Construction Software

It is known that maximum footing comes in trapezoidal shape. In this construction video tutorial you will learn how to determine the volume of a trapezoidal footing.

A trapezoid is formed by integrating a cuboid and a truncated pyramid.

Trapezoidal footing = Cuboid + trancated pyramid.

In order to work out the volume of trapezoidal footing, it is required to estimate the volume of a cuboid and a truncated pyramid.

In the video, the footing contains 3 parts the first one is a rectangular portion and it’s height is 2 meter. The second one is a trapezium portion and it’s height is 3 meter.

The third one is a column and it’s size is 3 x 4 meters.

Suppose the footing is divided as A and B.

Area of A will be determined as follow :-
A1 = Length x Width = 8 x 7 = 56 m2

Volume of A = Length x Width x Height = 8 x 7 x 2 = 112 m3

The volume of trapezoidal footing should be calculated with the following formula :-

V = h/3 (A1+A2+√(A1 x A2))

Here, h denotes the height of trapezoidal

A1 denotes area of lower shape
A2 denotes area of upper shape
We know, the area of lower shape = 56 m2

The area of lower shape will be determined as follow :-

Length x Width = 5 x 4 = 20 m2

Go through the following video tutorial to know the final calculation.
